Postpartum Recovery

Mamahood

Proven track record of successfully getting moms feeling like themselves for over 7 years

Congratulations on your new arrival! The postpartum period is a time of incredible change and adjustment, both physically and emotionally. Pelvic health physical therapy is an essential part of your recovery, helping you heal, regain strength, and return to the activities you enjoy. Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a cesarean section, your body needs time and care to recover fully.

At Hidden Strength Physical Therapy, I am here to support you through every stage of your postpartum journey. My personalized care focuses on restoring pelvic function, alleviating discomfort, and addressing any concerns you may have about your body after childbirth.

Common Conditions I Treat

After childbirth, your body undergoes significant changes. The pelvic floor, muscles, ligaments, and joints experience strain during pregnancy and delivery, and they may take time to return to their pre-pregnancy state. Common postpartum concerns include:

01

Bladder Leakage

Stress or urge incontinence is common after childbirth. Pelvic health therapy can help retrain the pelvic floor muscles to regain control.

02

Diastasis Recti

Separation of the abdominal muscles during pregnancy can lead to a weakened core. We focus on exercises to safely close the gap and restore strength.

03

Pelvic Pain or Discomfort

Pelvic pain, including pain during intercourse or during daily activities, or tailbone pain, can be addressed with targeted therapy.

04

Lower Back & Hip Pain

Postpartum changes in posture and muscle strength can lead to back and hip pain, which pelvic health physical therapy can help alleviate.

05

Scar Tissue Healing

Scar tissue can cause tension and discomfort after a C-section, episiotomy or perineal tear. Manual therapy can help improve flexibility and reduce adhesions.

06

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

The sensation of pelvic organs (like the bladder or uterus) descending or bulging can occur after childbirth. We can teach you strategies to manage and alleviate symptoms.

How Hidden Strength Physical Therapy Can Help You Thrive

My goal is not just recovery but to help you feel strong, empowered, and confident in your body. We will work together to:

Restore function: Improve strength, coordination, and mobility in the pelvic region and core.

Prevent future problems: Teach you proper body mechanics and self-care strategies to prevent complications in future pregnancies or during daily life.

Enhance your quality of life: Help you return to activities you love, whether it’s lifting your baby, exercising, or enjoying intimate relationships.

What to Expect in Postpartum Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

My postpartum physical therapy program is tailored to your unique needs, whether you’re a first-time mother or having your second or third child. We begin with a thorough assessment that includes:

  • A Detailed Health History: Understanding your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum experiences.
  • Postural and Movement Analysis: Identifying areas of discomfort or dysfunction.
  • Pelvic Floor Assessment: A gentle, non-invasive assessment of your pelvic floor muscles to check for weakness, tightness, or dysfunction.

Based on your specific needs, I will create a customized treatment plan that may include:

  • Breathing and Relaxation Techniques: Helping you reconnect with your body and reduce stress.
  • Pelvic Floor Exercises: Strengthening or relaxing the pelvic floor muscles.
  • Core and Diastasis Recti Rehab: Exercises to improve core strength and address abdominal separation.
  • Manual Therapy: Techniques to release tension, improve mobility, and reduce scar tissue adhesions.
  • Postural Education: Teaching proper body mechanics to reduce strain on the pelvis and spine.

When to Start Postpartum Pelvic Health Physical Therapy

It’s never too early or too late to seek help. Many women benefit from starting therapy as soon as they feel comfortable after childbirth, even as early as 6 weeks postpartum. However, therapy can also be beneficial months or even years later if you experience persistent symptoms or want to optimize your pelvic health.

Signs that pelvic health physical therapy could benefit you:

  • You experience urinary leakage (when coughing, sneezing, or exercising).
  • You feel pelvic pressure or heaviness.
  • You have back, hip, or pelvic pain.
  • You’re having difficulty with core strength or abdominal separation.
  • You’re experiencing painful intercourse or discomfort during physical activity.
